October 4

Hello Again,

Today started out a little rocky but ended up quite well.  When I arrived this morning the plastic surgeon was in here as well as a professor in nursing and an intern RN.  Donnie was obviously in agony and they were working on his inactive wound vac.  He just looked at me and barely said, "Hi".  He apologized and said he was sorry but that was all he could muster up.  Shortly after the three of them left the wound vac nurse came in and extended the bridge a little further down you his hip and got the vac working.  She also worked on all the other wounds on his legs, feet and heals and redressed them.  The plastic surgeon said that the wound vac would be changed out completely on Wednesday and again on Saturday...OUCH!  He also said that he would probably see him again in the operating room on Monday to see if he could finish closing that big hole in his back.  So far the hole is about 1/3 - 1/2 closed from what it was the time he got filleted open.  Mom said that he had a pretty good night and rested more than usual.  His pain level was much more balanced than it has been previously.
One huge factor in this pain reduction is the addition of "BIONIC BANDS" that have been sent to us as a gift from Frank and Sally Doub, friends of ours from North Salem, Indiana.  Donnie and I wear these bands regularly to keep the protons in our bodies aligned but Donnie's two bands were lost in the wreck.  Well when the new "BIONIC BANDS" arrived we put one on his left wrist and one on each ankle and within 10 minutes Donnie noticed a definite, measurable difference in his pain level.  This is why he was able to rest more through the night as well.  If you would like to learn more about these amazing "BIONIC BANDS" please go to this website: http://sallysoils.mybionicfamily.com .  There are many styles of these bands and the ones we have on Donnie is the one that says, "lightweight twill webbing".

After the wound nurse finished up with her job I gave Donnie a bath and really scrubbed his hair.  It was really bothering him so it felt extra good today.  I told him that he must not get discouraged and he must stay positive so we can keep moving forward.  He said that he just wanted to get out of this bed and even just walk to the bathroom.  He is still restricted to no weight bearing on his feet which is driving him crazy!  After his bath I got out the Essential Oils of Joy, Lemon Myrtle and Neroli and put them over his heart and on the depression point by his ears and had him inhale each one after I applied them.  It was like seeing a light bulb go on  in his eyes and you could almost see the positive mental attitude ignite!  Shortly after this exercise, the surgeon that filleted him open came in and talked about the severity of his main wound.  We questioned him about his thoughts of how long we would be here.  He said that on Wednesday when the wound vac is changed out they would be able to see how well the wound is progressing and then after surgery on Monday if they can get it pretty well closed up we might be able to graduate to a rehab center.  Of course, we have the orthopedic surgeon to deal with too due to the broken pelvis and tail bone.  Based on the wound the doctor thought we might be able move out late next week.   But depending on the orthopedic surgeon's opinion we may have another week or two.  Either way, we are focusing on a shorter stay than it appeared to us originally!  Let's agree together that we will make very quick progress!

Again, today we stayed ahead of the pain pretty well all day which has to be because of the BIONIC BANDS.  Thank God for them and thank you Frank and Sally Doub!

Today Donnie received a hole stack of cards from all over the country.  He even received a card from his parent's Dachshund, "Jake".  Thank you to everyone that has called, sent cards, gift cards, all kinds of products that help the healing process, text messages, emails, and the list goes on.  My Aunt Detta and Cousin Jerry left us a very big surprise in the hotel room...they went together and covered another 4 days of our stay at the Homestead Extended Stay where Mom and I are staying.  What a big help and a very pleasant surprise!  We still have two more days left of the week that Bob and Dee Edwards paid of the hotel bill.  Thanks again Bob and Dee for this generous provision!

God bless each and every one of you!  We look forward to giving you some huge progress reports tomorrow and through the week!

Don and Carol Schirr and Mom, Sharon Zelinko
